SLUGGISHA:200 DISASTERS LATER! (SL200)

Way back in the early 90's ,when Sluggisha was still an underground ,mail-order cassette label,this was the 200th release in the catalog.Featuring some of the best bands and/or songs ,up to that point,plus some of the latest stuff being recorded by local Ft.Myers,FL bands.As you can see from the cover art ,above,there were also bands from other areas of the United States,who were sending in tapes to be sold thru Sluggisha's distribution system.The songs that appear here were some of the most requested during gigs ,or on the underground ,pirate radio show on W.G.O.D. Many styles and types of music are featured ,which all fall under the punk umbrella.The catalog could be had thru ads in zines like Flipside,MRR,Rodent Cake ,and more obscure rags. The people who were lucky enough to have ordered cassettes from the catalog back then,were astounded by the revelation of real underground music,coming out of the deep south,as well as from our compatriots across the U.S. Yeah,some of the recordings are shit,but the bands worked with what they had,which in many cases ,was not very much.The Ft. Myers scene ,was very incestuous,with bands switching members ,and forming new bands ,constantly.Unfortunately many great bands never made recordings,or even if they played live gigs,they were sparsley attended.The earlier compilation,"The Ft. Myers Underground",featured pre-Sluggisha bands (mid-to-late 80's) ,with many people who continued to carry the torch into the 90's and beyond.A handful of the original scene is still recording music ,and doing various projects,to this day.The new kids who came in after the demise of downtown,(which we cracked open ,playing gigs,poetry slams) ,had no place left to play,as the top 40 type bands began to play downtown,and the scene dwindled.This is a document of a better time,when you could get a double mochaccino,smoke countless cigarettes,stand in the street in underwear and combat boots,drink booze,smoke dope,and wreak havoc.Ft.Myers sucks! It did then ,and it's a million times worse now.We had little record stores and comic shops we could play at,but sadly they never made enough revenue to keep on going. The Draft House (owned by Rick,and later Gary),The Main St. Coffee House(Cindy Bruce,who also owned a great thrift store ,right next door),The Indigo Club,Offbeat Records (Samskull in the Patio DeLeon),Record Trader(Ralph Tarantino) ,and oldies radio d.j. Doug Shannon ,all deserve to be in the history books ,with a resounding ,never-ending applause track,playing on to infinity.Thanks to everyone in the scene back then.You helped shape the town,and in turn the Sluggisha legacy,and I love you all.

ASF/PSYCHOSOMATIC CONSTIPATION split cd

An all-new split with a North/South American alliance.ASF is from Florida ,while Psychosomatic Constipation is from Brazil.ASF turns in a half-hour of one-of-a-kind sounds.Including brief interpolations of Sweet Leaf (Black Sabbath),Theme from Gilligan's Island,Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum pirate shanty's,and songs about pizza ,drum machines,guitars/bass/keys,as well as public service announcements.All laid on top of the harsh noise that ASF has become known for,with a sound all his own(p.s. the translation of the title is,"I Wish I Could Stab A Motherfucking Pig In The Face and 18 Other Big Shitcore Hits recorded 2/13/13").The 2 pieces (one short,one long) from Psychosomatic Constipation ,consist of a short weird number with blathering shitcore vocals and background sounds,and a long lo-fi excursion into the refrigerator for a drink and some silica.Check out Joao's blog at http://www.unbearablenoise.blogspot.com   for more of his extreme sounds.(he just did a couple of splits with Dylan's, Hell Garbage) Front cover art of 2 people I don't know,back cover by Eddie III. I dug out an old chestnut this week,as I've been busy recording music for upcoming releases the last couple weeks.This was a tribute to a guy i used to work with ,Steve Bourden (whom I christened ,"Steve Boredom",punk rock yeah?),who was going into the army during Desert Storm (idiot!),so i'm talking to him throughout the podcast,dedicating songs to him,and asking him questions. Whatever you wanna call it,it rules!! BACONAISSE , the experimental noisecore band,from the swamplands of Florida,has done 7 one hour split cdrs with 7 bands from the bowels of North and South America.The bands on the splits with BACONAISSE are:
1.KAAGOOTAABAA my friend John from North Carolina,who got started his musical career ,right here on the SLUGGISHA blog,turns in 30 minutes of tuned down acapella and funny samples,courtesy of YIP!RECORDS.
2.S & M HUNTER my pal Fuck Ramone from Illinois ,who recently collaborated on a new band with me ,QUEEF REICH, turns in an audio verite/concrete musique track ,as only he can do it,courtesy of his ELECTRIC HEDONIST BLOGSPOT.
3.ICEHOUSE HAIRSHIRT  a fairly new project from my buddy Dylan of Lakeland ,Florida ,an eclectic young man of many projects and bands,turns in an oral expansion of shitcore expression ,which is funny to say the least,courtesy of his LADY ANTHROPOPHAGUS UNINCORPORATED

7.PSYCHOSOMATIC CONSTIPATION  my bud Joao, in Brazil ,has fun on a spacey shitcore tune,full of vocals,samples,and weird sounds,he recently did other splits with the likes of ASF,HELL GARBAGE,ICEHOUSE HAIRSHIRT,KAAGOOTAABAA,etc,the list rolls on,courtesy of his blog ,UNBEARABLENOISE.BLOGSPOT

All the bands turned in one 30 minute track,while BACONAISSE does multiple tracks on each release,still adding up to that magical 30 minute mark.The BACONAISSE tracks are all over the place,musically,mentally,and spiritually. Veering from actual songs,into sheer harshness,to mellow,to oral reports,to overblown guitars,to humorous visions,to experiments in sound,well,you'll just have to hear it!

On Saturday,the 28th of April,2013 ,The Man,The Guy,Chico,& The Boob ,grabbed up the guitar, bass,drum kit,keyboards,and microphone,and recorded this set of 8 mind-blowing,unclassifiable songs.There are 4 songs with vocals and 4 instrumentals with keyboards in place of vocals (each member had a turn at the mic and keys,as well as guitar,bass,and drum set!) In a league all their own,(unless you count The Germs (Germicide-era),Flipper,and the Shaggs) ,in league with Satan (huh huh ..Venom) , this is weird. Dylan Houser did the front cover art and logo ,Eric did the back cover art,graphics by The Man ,and the songs were titled by The Guy.There's even a video for,"Pizza Villian" (an instrumental) on youtube! If you check the sluggisha page at archive.org ,you may stumble upon the original mixdown of this album.There are alternate mixes,samples,and artwork.If you are interested in purchasing a hard copy cdr of this,please contact me in the comments box below. The 4 SIDS ,bring the old school punk sound from Massachussetts ,with a tinge of UK snarling,also evident in their cover song choice of "Kill" ,by erstwhile  1977 UK punk jesters , Albertos Y Los Trios Paranoias ,which leads off this 6 song demo cd,( on the Peel Sessions ,for Albertos Y Los Trios Paranoias, there is a track named ,"Sid's Song" recorded just 3 months before the release of their first single ,which may be a good choice for the 4 SIDS to cover on the next one! Maybe re-name it ,"4 Sids Song" !! that would be cool!) The rest of this demo is just as punk and cool,retaining that same UK sound throughout! Ashey's singin' on this one ,in his highly identifiable style,while Jenny ,his girl ,is on drums, playing songs which lyrically focus on high school memories ,such as :"Peer Pressure" ,"Oxyclean" ,"Pride In Your School","Baby In The Toilet At The Prom" ,and more related subjects. In their only LP ,Massachussetts August Spies ,re-records a lot of earlier numbers and lays down some new anarchist punk songs.With covers of GG Allin and The Avengers, and Ashey on vox and guitar,this band is a punk force to be reckoned with.Veterans of the punk scene,they have opened for more big-name punk bands than you can count on your fingers(and toes!)Some of their finest moments are caught on this release,tho' some of these did have more punk furor on the original demo tapes.Ashey's mom was the cover model,and was apparently the coolest punk mom on the scene!This is the sound of anarchy! If you claim to be a true punk ,and you have not yet heard August Spies,I don't know how you can make that claim! Ashey is punk's "everyman" ,and his lyrics defend that notion.
